Gafsa P & PK

Gafsa – what is it?

Gafsa is the world’s leading reactive rock phosphate and is the building block of our Powercrop, Scotphos, New Life and Natural ranges of P and PKs.

Gafsa’s high reactivity means it starts releasing plant-available phosphate straight after application as well as providing a sustained release of nutrients for 3 – 4 years. The phosphate from Gafsa is less liable to being fixed in the soil compared to water-soluble phosphates making it an efficient and economic alternative, especially for building long-term soil reserves.

In addition to phosphate, Gafsa is also a rich source of secondary nutrients and trace elements which improve soil fertility and enrich the nutritional value and palatability of grass and forages.

Gafsa Phosphate Grades

Gafsa Basic (0-29.5-0)

The low cost basic slag replacement. Gafsa is a steady release powder dressing with a high level of phosphate. Natural secondary and trace elements are a valuable feature in Basic which is supplied in an easy to handle, fine, form. Prices can include spreading arrangements if required.

Granular Scotphos (1-27-0)

Gafsa is finely ground and then granulated to give an easy-to-apply product with the same benefits as Gafsa Basic.

Morephos (5-32-0)

Ideally suited for re-seeding, Morephos contains 12% water-soluble phosphate to ensure rapid growth post-germination and 20% Gafsa phosphate to sustain seedling development and soil P reserves.

Gafsa PK grades

SFD are the market leaders in Gafsa-based PK Systems which offer benefits to soils, pastures, crops and livestock. Our Powercrop and New Life PK Systems are a long-established and successful alternative to ‘standard’ fertiliser options and provide farmers with economic and practical benefits.

Powercrop

All of the P in the Powercrop PK range is derived from Gafsa making these products ideally suited for both intensive and extensive grassland production.

Powercrop Graze (0-22-12)

Apply to grazing fields where soil phosphate levels are low (index 0 or 1) and soil potash levels are moderate (index 2-) or organic manures are being used.

Powercrop Universal (0-19-19)

Use in extensive or intensive grazing where soil phosphate and potash levels are both moderate (index 2 for P, 2- for K), or where organic manures are not applied.

Powercrop Forage (0-13.5-30)

Ideally suited for multi-cut silage systems to replace high potash removal in silage. Gafsa phosphate encourages root development and sugar production to stimulate fermentation.

Powercrop Extra K (0-9-40)

Ideal for silage systems where soil potash levels are low (index 0 – 1) or where organic manures are not being used.

New Life

The New Life range provides two sources of phosphate: DAP which contains water-soluble P and a small quantity of nitrogen and Gafsa for a sustained release of P. The proportion of DAP to Gafsa is varied to suit different soil and crop situations.

New Life 2 (3-25-12)

Apply to grazing fields where soil phosphate levels are low (index 0 or 1) and soil potash levels are moderate (index 2-) or organic manures are being used.

New Life 3 (3-21-21)

Balanced fertiliser suitable for use on cereals and grassland where soil phosphate and potash levels are both moderate (index 2 for P, 2- for K).

New Life 4 (2-16-30)

High potash fertiliser for cereals or forage crops where high yields are expected, where soil potash levels are low (index 0 – 1) or where organic manures are not applied.

New Life 5 (5-22-22)

Specifically formulated as a superior re-seeding fertiliser where soil phosphate and potash levels are both moderate, or where organic manures are not being used. Provides sufficient nitrogen and water-soluble phosphate to stimulate early growth for optimum establishment and sustained phosphate to replenish soil P reserves and meet the high P demands of re-seeds.

New Life 6 (6-26-15)

Specifically formulated as a superior re-seeding fertiliser where soil phosphate levels are low and soil potash levels are moderate or organic manures are being applied. Provides sufficient nitrogen and water-soluble phosphate to stimulate early growth for optimum establishment and sustained phosphate to replenish soil P reserves and meet the high P demands of re-seeds.
